Shakeel M Akhter

Shakeel Akhtar is an accomplished creative writer-journalist, with a wealth of experience in the media industry.

 

He has previously served as the editor of India’s top TV news channel, India TV.

Prior to his foray into TV journalism, he honed his skills in the field of print media, having worked with esteemed Hindi newspapers such as

  • Naiduniya,
  • Dainik Bhaskar,
  • Free Press Journal,
  • Chautha Sansar and
  • Navprabhat.

In the nineties, Shakeel was associated with several theater organizations in Indore and Gwalior, and has acted in over a dozen plays.

He has had the privilege of receiving training in theater from reputed directors such as BM Shah, Sanjeev Dixit, Dr. Kamal Vashisht, Mr. Rajendra Gupta, and Hafeez Khan.

In addition to his acting credits in plays and TV-cine programs, Shakeel has written 7 plays of his own, including

  • Jai Hind Subhash,
  • Durga Bhabhi: Undercover Post Box,
  • Monia the Great,
  • Jungle City,
  • Hello Shakespeare,
  • Blue Whale: Ek Dangerous Game, and
  • Yeh Film Hai Zara Hatke.

Two of his plays have even been staged at the prestigious National School of Drama in Delhi.

Shakeel has been associated with various institutions of theater and arts.

Furthermore, Shakeel has also been a drama artist of All India Radio Indore and Gwalior, and many of his programs have been broadcasted on All India Radio.

His poetry collection ‘Dil Hi To Hai’ is published by Story Mirror.

Several Indian film industry music directors have composed numerous songs written by him, including the popular ‘Vande Mataram’, a historic song of independence.

He has also served as a member of the Preview Committee for the International Film Festival of India IFFI 2019 and 2020 by the Delhi Directorate of Films (DFF), which is administered by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Additionally, he was invited to act as a jury member of the Indian Panorama at the Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFF).

In recognition of his contributions to writing and journalism, he has been awarded five Media Awards and the Abhinandan Prashasti.

He has completed his graduation from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, and a Master’s degree in Hindi Literature from Jiwaji Vishwavidyalaya, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh).

His father, Mr. Abdul Hafeez, was a Gazette Officer of the High Court.

The individual in question completed his education in cities where his father was posted, such as Jabalpur, Indore, and Gwalior.

Furthermore, he has made a constructive contribution to various journals through continuous writing on personalities related to art and culture.

He is also the founder editor of indorestudio.com, through which he writes on art personalities and art activities.

At present, he holds the position of Vice President of the State Press Club in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
